What a great program! Through the Precept Leadership Mentor Program, Beth offered just the right amount of training, knowledge, discipleship and encouragement to help me become confident with my ability to lead an inductive Bible study. I am currently leading my first inductive study and am already excited for God to reveal what the next study will be. Thanks, Beth! I am truly grateful. 🙂

A great source of encouragement for me has been the Leader Mentorship Program at Precept Ministries led by Beth Schmidt. Through this program, I have had the opportunity to discover and apply great truths from the Bible whilst working through biblical principles necessary for leading studies faithfully. The group of Christ followers in the program has been an amazing support. It’s been a blessing to connect with others as we prepare to guide others as they embark on their own biblical journey.

The Leader Mentorship Program has truly been a wonderful experience for me. Seeing the body of Christ work together to sharpen one another has energized and encouraged me. Throughout my time in this program, I know God has been equipping me and increasing my understanding, but more importantly, deepening my love for Him, His Word and His people.
“Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all His energy that He powerfully works within me” (Colossians 1:28-29).

Be a part of a like-minded community

Community — We all want to be part of a small, dynamic community; and a small, dynamic community that is sharing and growing in the Word together is even better. That’s what Precept is all about. The next step is to further develop skills in The Word so that we can teach others how to grow deeper in the Lord through His Word. Precept Canada takes seriously Paul’s charge in 2 Timothy 2:2.

And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, commit to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

2 Timothy 2:2
There are three groups available for the Mentorship Program.

It will be hard to choose, but you may only choose one of these groups at a time. Every group will go through content from many of our Training Workshops but will be applying it according to their own goals for the group.

If all you had was your Precept Inductive Study Bible, would you be able to apply the principles of observe, interpret and apply to any portion of Scripture?

Could you develop the following components of a Precept discussion simply using the text? Could you develop the logical order of discussion, interpretation and application questions, word studies and cross-references?

This mentoring group is geared toward those interested in using their inductive study skills in partnership with the Precept Inductive Study Bible.

We will look at Biblical Hermeneutics by starting with Observation and Interpretation. We will start with the Historical Books and make our way through Old Testament Prophecy, Wisdom, and Poetry literature. Then we will move on to New Testament Biographical literature, the Epistles and New Testament Prophecy to learn how to approach each type of literature using the Precept Inductive Study Bible.

We will set three simple standards for approaching Scripture. They are:

  1. What type of literature are we studying?
  2. Context is king!
  3. How does it point to Jesus?

We will learn to develop effective discussions for our classes by applying these standards.

The prerequisites for attending this mentoring group are:

  1. You must own or intend to purchase for use in this group, a Precept Inductive Study Bible – NASB Version.
  2. You must be leading or intending to lead any Precept Bible Study within one month of the program. This requirement is vital so you can put into practice what we learn each month.
  3. You must have completed at least five or more Precept Upon Precept

Please Note: There will be 5-10 hours of homework each month assigned for this group. You should complete the assigned homework prior to our monthly meeting.

“Oh, How I love Thy Law! It is my meditation all the day”! — Psalm 119:97
The particular focus of this leader mentoring group will emphasize leading a Precept Upon Precept (PUP) Bible Study group.
The hoped-for result is that you will become well-equipped, confident Bible study leaders who engage others in the Scriptures through a thorough and well-thought-out plan for leading effective discussions in a group.
As such, we will examine the various types of literature in the Bible and how to approach each type, both for studying and leading discussions. You will develop good reasoning skills by utilizing solid interpretive tools covered in the program. Emphasis will always be given to understanding the flow of thought in both the Scriptures and the PUP Leader Guides. This will result in you being able to ask questions of your study group that will give insight and lead to life-changing applications.
Opportunities will be given for you to prepare and teach a lesson of your choosing. As you apply what you learn, the result will be your development as an excellent PUP leader who will help others to grow in their faith and obedience to the Lord through knowing His Word.

When many people think about Precept Bible studies, they think of our Precept Upon Precept (PUP), 5-hours-of-homework-each-week studies. They often say, “I don’t have time for that!” But Precept has SO much more to offer!

This mentoring group will be geared to those who are currently leading, or are interested in leading, one of Precept’s non-PUP studies—one of our 40-Minute, LORD Series, New Inductive Study Series or In & Out studies. While these studies require less homework than PUP studies, they are still excellent resources to get people studying the Word and get them used to discussing the Word, not man’s thoughts or writings about it.

We can learn so much from each other as we carefully observe and interpret Scripture and then thoughtfully discuss how to put these truths into practice in our everyday lives. Every study that Precept produces is designed to foster these skills. We will examine how the principles taught in the skills workshops are incorporated into these various levels of study.

The Leader Guide for each of these study series (except for In & Out) is contained within the book, but do you know how to use it effectively? Do you understand how much preparation and what type of preparation you need to lead these studies? How do you move your group (and perhaps yourself) away from this being a study where you take up the homework or fill in the blanks to one where you are engaging with and reasoning through the Scriptures? How can you, as a leader, feel well-prepared and confident to lead?

And what about the In & Out studies? Yes, each study has a PUP Leader Guide, but how do you sift through all of the “extras” to use them to lead your In & Out group?

Precept is about so much more than Precept Upon Precept studies. This mentoring group aims to create a small army of confident, well-prepared leaders who can then raise up confident, well-prepared leaders for the non-PUP studies!

Why should you do this program?

The goal is that all will have an opportunity to be part of a like-minded small group that is raising up others in the Word of God.

This ongoing interactive experience will provide a nurturing environment for developing solid inductive Bible study skills and the ability to help others to do likewise.

There will also be opportunity for those who would like some feedback in a safe learning environment, to lead Precept Bible Studies or learn how to lead using just the Precept Inductive Study Bible. Some who will be joining are leading studies already; the hope being that all will lead a Precept study in the near future.

What will we study?

We will cover topics such as:

    • How to Study Old Testament History and Prophecy
    • How to Study New Testament Letters
    • How to reason through the Scriptures
    • How to frame good questions that help others to dig deeper
    • How to use Precept Leader Guides effectively

…and more!

How often will we meet?

The commitment is one session per month (2-3 hours long) for six months.

When will we meet?

Each mentor will arrange their first meeting with their group. At the first meeting we will get to know one another, schedule our future meetings to co-ordinate with everyone’s calendars and spend some time in God’s Word together.

Prayerfully consider this invitation to join this program

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God.
